    The power of conflicting values.

Something I heard recently really stuck with me, especially with what I’ve been hearing as we grow the sales and service culture through the credit union.

A lot of feedback from staff has been that if they follow what we’re teaching, they risk losing their authenticity. Which is a fair concern.

Most organizations try to solve this kind of tension by picking one side. Efficiency or personalization. Cost control or creativity. Systems or autonomy.

But the organizations that stand out don’t choose… they do both.

This idea is known as integrative thinking. The tension between two priorities is what drives better thinking and better outcomes. It forces us to rethink how the work gets done.

The goal isn’t to replace authenticity with a script. The goal is to provide structure so the important things don’t get missed, while still allowing each team member’s personality, curiosity, and care to come through.

Structure creates consistency. Authenticity builds connection.

When both are there, the member experience improves and the organization gets stronger.
